You know the feeling when you meet someone for the first time and you just knowyou’ll be fast friends? Well, that’s how I felt when I first met Nichole and Alex. Jovial, loving, and extremely generous, this couple stole my heart from the moment I met them.
By the time Southern Bash was brought on, Nichole had already gotten a lot of the main things knocked out, so we hit the ground running! The venue they had selected was The Chapel at Riverwalk in Flower Mound, TX. Planning in conjunction with the Walter’s Wedding Estates team at the Chapel at Riverwalk meant that catering, DJ, some floral, bar, some paper goods, and photography were taken care of already, so my role became an amalgamation of organizing those from Walter’s, while also filling in the leftover needs Nichole and Alex had.
Over the 9 or so months Nichole and I had with each other, we dreamed, we learned there were more shades of emerald green than we thought, scratched ideas, filled in with new ideas, and generally had a really fun time making this wedding day all she wanted.
The vibe I was given was: moody, candlelight filled, and intimate. Nichole and Alex wanted the party to feel like an intimate but REALLY fun family gathering-which it was! One of Nichole’s original ideas was to drape the inside of the reception hall, further demonstrating the intimate feel she was going for. What started as an exciting idea, however, turned into a logistical challenge, (turns out adhering drapes to chandeliers is a no no?), and quite frankly, when it came down to it, other items for the wedding just became more important to Nichole, so we scrapped the idea. The intimate, candle-filled, moody vibe was achieved by dressing the tables in black velvet linens, gold chargers, dark green napkins, gold flatware, 4ft tall candelabras with real candles, tall decorative floral installations, and a whole lot of votives throughout the space. Sherpa Floral Rental was able to beautifully craft Nichole’s vision with an assortment of black, emerald green, and white faux florals set into cascading greenery. Their creations were not only adorning the tables, but the ceremony aisle, altar, and cross. For any brides looking for an alternative to real florals, Sherpa Floral Rental out of Arlington, TX is a great faux floral alternative! Once the night set in, the room took on this delightful glow, with half the tables adorned with candelabras, and the other half adorned with the tall floral arrangements. Since we ended up with an odd number of tables and Nichole and Alex were doing a non-traditional head table setup, we chose to fill the center of their table with the aisle marking candles used at the ceremony site. The accents of black, white, and gold Nichole chose popped so beautifully against the base color of emerald green throughout both the reception hall and ceremony location.
Let’s chat about that ceremony! Not only was it a hilarious, touching, and adorable ceremony, officiated by Alex’s own brother, Rafael, it was also just plain beautiful. Nichole and Alex’s kids stood by them as they pledged their love, right in front of a backdrop of cascading florals and floor to ceiling windows overlooking the Flower Mound Riverwalk. Guests were greeted by a sign nodding to Nichole and Alex’s love story beginnings (thank you Facebook Dating!), as well as a mirrored aisle runner. Never having put one down before, my team and I quickly found out a new skill we could market: aisle runner adherers! The effect of the candles bouncing off the mirror on the room was one I won’t soon forget. On each chair, we placed a program that had more fun facts about not only our bride and groom, but also about the guests of the wedding as well!
The reception boasted a song sung by Nichole’s father for their first dance, the crispest photo booth you ever did see (my skin has never looked better, thank you Divva Photo Booth and your flash!), and some hilarious roasts, (oh, I mean toasts…) from Nichole’s brother and a family friend.
The whole day was captured on video by the incomparable Austin Daniel Videography, as well as photographed by Walter’s in-house photo team, Emily Chappell Productions. Austin perfectly captured the intimacy of the day, as well as the FUN that ensued when our mostly Mexican crowd took over the dance floor!
I will forever be grateful to Alex and Nichole for being my first wedding as a SB Lead Planner, they were gracious beyond gracious to me! I learned so much and had a beautiful time along the way. Love you Nichole and Alex!!!
